Monument Valley and the Lone Ranger (2013)

The extraordinary beauty of Monument Valley has served as a backdrop to many popular Hollywood films since the 1930s. Monument Valley became a favorite location for shooting western movies since John Ford filmed Stagecoach in 1939. Since those days, a range of movie genres have filmed movie footage in Monument Valley ranging from National Lampoons Vacation, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Forrest Gump, and Back to the Future III, to name just a few. The beautiful reddish sandstone formations are well suited for "Old West" type movies, and proof of this fact is one of Johnny Depp's latest movies: The Lone Ranger.

The film by Jerry Bruckheimer and Gore Verbinski starring Johnny Depp as Tonto and and Armie Hammer as The Lone Ranger, is a new take on an old story where the two very different characters team up to fight powerful and corrupt foes.  The Lone Ranger is a big budget Disney film and has endured several delays in production, however is one of the most highly anticipated movies of 2013.

Johnny Depp and company spent a good deal of time filming in different locations in the Valley, and we here at Sandstone Tours, are very much looking forward to seeing the backdrop of Monument Valley in such a prominent movie.  As a tour company with access to all of Monument and Mystery Valley, we can happily provide you with a tour of the area and allow you to see the very same locations made famous in the movies.
